The Bottom Corners.

  • Our next big concern is getting the bottom corners in their correct places. We are not worried quite yet about whether or not the corner pieces match up color wise. We just want to make sure they are in the correct spots so that we can twist them into shape.
Turn the bottom layer of your cube until you can line up at least two corners where they belong. Remember, don't worry about color, just get them into place (the picture to the left is an example of a corner cube being in the correct place, but twisted incorrectly). You may be able to get all four in the correct spot. If you can, great! Two is usually what you will find.

  • There are four different combinations you can have on the bottom of your cube right now.
    They are:
  • All four corners are in their correct place, and the colors match up (Rare, but it happens).
  • All four corners are in their correct place, but the colors don't match up.
  • Two corners are out of place, and right next to each other or
  • Two corners are out of place, and diagonal from each other.
  • If your corners are all in the correct place and the colors match up, congratulations you are done with this layer! Click here.
  • If your corners are all in the correct place but the colors don't match up, then you are halfway there! Click here.
  • If you have two corners that are out of place and right next to each other (picture 1), Click here.
  • If you have two corners that are out of place and diagonal from each other (picture 2), Click here.

  • The out of place cubes are next to each other.

  • Hold the cube so that the two out of place corners match the grey pattern in picture #1. Rotate your Cube toward you 90 degrees so that the center cube (the red face in my picture) is facing you. Note your face color. Now perform the set of instructions below.
  • All your corners should now be in the correct place. If they are not, check the bottom of the cube for the patterns above and try again. When they are correct you can move on to the next step.

  • The out of place cubes are diagonal from each other.

  • Hold the cube so that the two out of place corners match the pattern in picture #2.

  • Twisting those corners.

  • This next phase is a bit of a pain, but we are almost done! Turn your cube so that you can see the bottom face. We are now going to match the pattern on the bottom face with one of seven patterns below. We are ignoring all of the colors except the bottom face color for the moment.
  • The cube closest to you in the pictures below shows the front face (red), the left side (yellow), and the bottom (blue middle) of the cube. The back half of the cube is mirrored to show the where the matching bottom colors should be.
  • There is only one set of instructions for twisting the corners, but it is very important that you line up the patterns to use them. Misalignment will cause you to have nightmares and become discouraged with your Cube. Match your Cube to one of the patterns below. Colors that would normaly be out of sight are mirrored behind the cubes. (This is where we find out if someone has been messing with your Cube. If it does not match any pattern shown, then you will have to finish your Cube with a hammer).

  • Once you have matched your Cube to a pattern, turn the cube so you are facing what would be the red face on my cube. Note your face color. Follow the set of instructions below. You may have to repeat this step as many as three times before the corner cubes are all correctly oriented. Just remember to keep matching the patterns above.
  • If your corner cubes colors do not all match yet, go back to the patterns above and follow the directions back to this line.
  • If your corner cube colors all match, congratulations! Now the only thing left is to fix the bottom edge cubes.
